How Do Security Procedures Illustratively Fit Into Your Secured Environment?

When asked recently to illustrate how Security Procedures are integral to the overall Security Environment I meditated on this topic briefly and I envisioned an illustrative comparison: an armored car. The illustration came to me, no surprise, while driving behind one.

How is your security environment like an armored car? Imagine you’ve taken every conceivable risk to your money and mitigated that risk with an appropriate counter-measure: for an armed bandit, you have an armed security guard trained to deal with such a person; for a nail in the road, extra thick tires; for a direct assault, armor plating; the list goes on.

Security procedures protect you from indirect assault. Could someone manufacture a key to the armored vehicle? Rotate keys and locks. Could a disreputable individual become a guard? Background checks will mitigate that possibility. Could an organization plan a direct heist against the entire vehicle itself? Drive random routes to pickup and drop-off destinations at varying times.

Security procedures are no doubt an integral part of the Security Environment and a potential risk if not properly reviewed and audited along with all other security processes.
