There is merit to their concern due to the high-speed networks usually hosting these unwary students. These students are often specifically targeted by attackers due to the incredible resources available to them.

University IT departments are no doubt gearing up for these attacks by updating their intrusion detection systems to include all the latest worm and bot detection signatures.
